OFSEA Launches Cybersecurity Provincial Minecraft Design Challenge

Fair Chance Learning (FCL) and OFSEA Working Together to Bring Minecraft Education Access to all Ontario Schools.

Newmarket, ON - Fair Chance Learning and the Ontario Federation of School Esports Associations (OFSEA) are thrilled to announce their partnership in launching a provincial Minecraft Build Challenge around the theme of cybersecurity. This exciting partnership will provide an opportunity for elementary school students in Grades 5 to 8 across Ontario to learn about the importance of cybersecurity through the creative world of Minecraft Education.

The challenge is FREE and open to all Ontario elementary schools. Participants will have access to a wide range of resources, including a cybersecurity curriculum, to help them learn about the topic and build their creations. Fair Chance Learning is happy to make available demo licenses for Minecraft Education to all teachers, even those not in a Microsoft365-supported school board.

"We're excited to partner with OFSEA to bring this unique and educational opportunity to students across Ontario," said Blaise Patterson, Program Manager of Learning Technologies and Esports at FC Learning. "With cybersecurity becoming increasingly important in today's digital world, it's important to provide students with an opportunity to learn about it in a fun and engaging way."

"We are thrilled to be partnering with FC Learning on this initiative," said Matt Kovacs, OFSEA co-founder. "We believe that this challenge will not only be fun for students but will also help to promote cybersecurity awareness and understanding among young learners. And we’re thrilled that Fair Chance Learning will be providing teachers with some free professional development workshops for those who want to learn more about Minecraft as a learning tool."

The winners of the OFSEA Provincial Minecraft Build Challenge will advance to compete in a live, head-to-head finals event, which will be held in late May 2023.

The challenge runs from March 20th to April 29th and the first round of registrations closes on March 18th. Teachers wishing to participate can register their teams at www.ofsea.org. If your district does not have access to Minecraft Education and you would like to participate, please reach out to blaise@fairchancelearning.com for support.
